Post rally

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is finally over.  There are a few stragglers, but the dull roar that has permiated the air is starting to lull.  We headed out to our property to see what we could see.
I saw these nasty caterpillars eating my gooseberry bushes.  There aren't any berries, thanks to a hard freeze.
I did some research and found out these vines are wild cucumbers.  Bummer they aren't edible.
The wildlife was abundant.  We saw wild turkeys and antelope.

I think my favorite photo was capturing the hawk in flight, while taking a picture of Bear Butte shrouded in clouds.

I am so glad the Rally is over.  Is there something you have not been looking forward to this summer?

  2. Been up there a few times, but usually stay away anymore. I have never seen anything eat the gooseberries. Getting lots from my garden, it was a push and shove match in the raspberries the other day. My golden everlasting are real tasty, and rarely make it inside.

  3. Aww, I love the turkeys. Every day on my drive in I see two turkeys with their babies walking by the tree line. Too bad about the caterpillars, I don't see those kind here but they are interesting looking We used to pick gooseberries when I was a young child but I don't remember what they look like. I'd like to try planting some though, my dad loved them I think in pies.

  4. Cool photo of the caterpillars, even if they're eating your gooseberries. And nice shots of Bear Butte too. I'm glad the majority of the bikers have moved out. I stayed home all week.
