Last year we built a new flower bed in front of the cabin The old one had moved with the clay soil and was pushing against the porch supports. I was very pleased with the final result. I was somewhat skeptical that my poor Miss Kim lilac would take to the rehoming, but she looks great this spring.
Now comes part two of the flower bed project. This is the old block flower bed. It has also moved into the porch supports.
I started out by removing the blocks, then the plants, and finally the grass. I put down a nice layer of gravel. Then we started creating the bed from scratch. There is something very rewarding about getting a project like this done in a day.
I'm afraid my fishing bears had to go. I needed my tall bear and short bear to even out the beds. We didn't realize the height difference between beds until we were all done. Luckily the bears make it appear even.
I am glad to have these two projects done. They were damaging the cabin and were actually quite small. Now my plants have room to grow and the beds stick out far enough from the roof to capture rain water. It was quite ridiculous that I was having to water both beds despite lots of rain. These beds may be in recovery mode this year, but I am certain that next year they will be phenomenal.
I can't say enough how much I appreciate my husband. If I say I need flower beds, he builds me flower beds. I am the luckiest woman ever.

Finally, my favorite part, planting! My pink rose was in need of a better bed.

Your place looks so beautiful! Yes, next year will be spectacular, I'm guessing too!
ReplyDeleteThat looks very nice! In a year, those plants will be filling in and thriving. Your place looks nicely balanced from the front. Job well done! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! Once the flowers fill in, will be absolutely stunning. Also, is that a sleigh I see? Is it operable?
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely and perfect and will be enjoyed this year, and in the years ahead too!
ReplyDeleteI think they look so nice. It is nice once you get them all planted isn't it? Yes, I have found I have to be quiet now, because if I say, wouldn't a flower bed look nice there, next time I go out there it is. Or any other project. There is this very nice thing about having sweet husbands. I like reading about yours. I hope you have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! It's a lot different but it suits the cabin well.
ReplyDeleteSpring projects are fun. Looks like you are keeping busy in the garden. Yea for having good help with your projects.
ReplyDeleteI really like the look! The size will be nice for your flowers too. That hubby of yours is a "keeper."
ReplyDeleteI love remodeling projects! Yours turned out great, I love the satisfaction of a job well-done. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have been working on my "beds" too and hope that all my efforts will pay off with beautiful color. Love your projects, XOXO
