Back in the swing of things...

It has been a rough start to the year, but hopefully we will be back on track.  It was warm this weekend and I got a lot done in the garden.  I am not pie eyed, it is supposed to snow 8 inches tonight.

The seedlings are up in the greenhouse.  The spinach, lettuce, and peas are all looking good.  Please no comments on the careful spacing.
I was able to till up the garden using a good old fashioned shovel.  I was very excited by the amount of worms in the soil and the progress of my garlic and onions.  I even had a couple of carrots overwinter.  My asparagus is also starting to peak out.

I need to plant more crocus.  They are such happy little buggers.  The problem is they start to show and then get crushed by snow.
The orchard looks wonderful.  The garden looks good.  The flower seeds I sowed are coming up.  I'm ecstatic with how things are shaping up outdoors.   On the house front, I am keeping busy.  It started raining heavily and I was stuck going indoors.
When it started to rain I had to do something inside.  I settled on pumpkin cake.  An odd choice for spring.  I also bottled my Giggling Gooseberry wine.  I am super happy with it.  I was afraid it would be teary eyed tart, but it is just right.
It is getting harder to work on indoor things, as I love being outdoors.  Next weekend I will be turkey hunting with my bow.  Hopefully, we will be able to do a little fishing.  What is going on in your neck of the woods?   I leave you with a few beautiful sunsets.

Wishing you a beautiful spring!

  1. Your crocuses will bounce back after the snow. Mine did. Way to go, getting your garden dug over! I'm not at that stage quite yet. -Jenn

  3. We had a lovely summer like weekend but the temperatures at night dropped. Not ideal for plants. It's a teasing time of year. We did manage to plant quite a bit though. Things that don't mind a touch of frost.

  4. Leaves are busting out on the trees here. 80º today! I bought a bunch of pots for both of my balconies and plan to fill them with perennials. I brought one potted perennial with me and it over wintered fine and is growing well. I should post some photos too.

  5. 8" ugh! We had about an inch this morning. Aren't those little green sprouts a welcome site this time of year? Also turkey with bow and arrow? Are they any easier to sneak up on than large game? Hubby just got a PSI Inertia and is having fun practicing 😁 It means a guaranteed tag come fall.

  8. It looks wonderful and ready for spring when it finally does make its appearance for good. You made me laugh about the spacing of your planting. I love getting excited about the worms that are in the soil.
We are planting our peppers this weekend. I am so excited to begin to start the garden. Weather permitting of course. We have snow in the forecast on Thursday. Not here but in the mountains so it gets cold down here. Have a great week.

  9. Your garden is beginning and it will be so fun to watch how it grows. Your pumpkin cake looks wonderful and seeing the wine, made me think the cake I made would be great using your wine, XOXO
