Observations and observation deck...

I had the opportunity to travel with a good friend of mine to a training in Anaconda, Montana this week.  We had so much fun.  I don't know how I get so lucky.  LaVera and I laughed dang near the whole trip.  Normally a ten hour drive (eleven if you stop at an antique store) over two mountain passes in early spring is no laughing matter.

I was able to meet up with my long time friend, Jody.  It was great to catch up with her.  Over a span of 25 yearsish we manage to get together every two to four years.  We graduated from college at the same time and married around the same time.  It is always fun to visit and see how our lives have evolved.  She has lived in many different places and has a wonderful family.

Another enjoyable part of the trip was the principal at the Job Corps, where the training was held, is also a friend.  We are very similar.  We both started working at Job Corps 25 years ago.  We became principals around the same time.  Both of us are avid outdoors women and hunt (we have both shot bears).  We are realists with a healthy amount of skepticism.  Life is beautiful.
It was nice to do a little traveling.  We somehow missed the big South Dakota blizzard.  In fact, we even stayed at a very nice hotel in Anaconda the Fairmont Warm Springs. I highly recommend it if you are avoiding a blizzard.
Everything worked out perfectly.  When I got home the weather had warmed up enough so Kelly and I could finish the observation deck.

I will be doing yoga out there tonight before bed.  I am super excited.  We laughed at how much bigger the deck seems now that we aren't pressed against the wall of the cabin.  It went up relatively fast.  Of course people do work faster when the are standing up and walking around, compared to laying flat with somebody holding your feet.
I guess that is my weekly observations.  It is sure nice to have good friends and great memories.  I will always remember that trip as one filled with laughter and good company.   I am thankful every day for the choices I have made that have led me to such a fabulous life.  Did I mention that I came back to a good foot and a half of snow, fully expecting my Jeep to be buried in snow, only to find the staff and students had it all shoveled out for my return?  I almost cried.  I guess the t-shirt company is right "Life is Good."

Have you ever gone on a road trip with a close friend?  Have a great week.

  1. Fantabulous photos!! I would have cried too, at the kindness of your staff and students! You are clearly much appreciated at your school! The observation deck also turned out great!
My hubby and I just came back from a two week road trip, and we are very thankful to also have missed bad weather!! We drove across parts of the midwest that were affected by flooding, but not through the parts where to worst damage was. We had been as far wast as Rocky Mountain National Park, and the week after we got home, we heard that they had a lot of snow.

  2. I think we are done with snow for the year down here but it's still flying not too far up in elevation so still chilly. Glad you had fun. It's so healthy to laugh like that!

  5. What a wonderful place you visited and it sounds like and looks so beautiful. I did laugh out loud about going fast if someone isn't holding onto your feet. Just looking up at your observation deck makes me feel woozy. It will be so nice to be out there and my goodness all the things you will be able to spot. No, I haven't done that in a long time gone for a visit with a friend. I hope the snow melts and you are having a nice week.
