I started out working on a quilt, but when my leftover scraps had potential for a rug. I got a tad sidetracked. They are a bit narrow for a rug, but I'm still happy with how it has started.
Then I got distracted bottling my grape wine and using leftover service berries to make my first batch of service berry syrup. I will be trying the syrup out this weekend on buckwheat pancakes. The next thing I knew we had a bunch of snow and that means one thing. Time to make ice cream!
World's Easiest Chocolate Ice Cream
3 cans of sweetened condensed milk
6 cups of whole milk
1 cup of cocoa mixed smooth in 1 cup of water (lumps are very bad)
Whisk together and put in the ice cream maker. Let it do it's thing and eat like a king.
This is why I only get one quilt done every 3-4 years. I'd better get back on track as gardening season is coming and all quilting will stop then. Hope everyone else is keeping busy. It is still snowing here.
Hope it's warm inside! Enjoy that ice cream!!
ReplyDeleteThe start of your rug looks great! Enjoy your syrup this weekend..sounds yummy!! Do share some snow pics soon :) Cheers, Jenni
ReplyDeleteSeeing all your projects I am in awe! From bread-making to quilting and ice cream, wow, you are a busy lady! I wish I wasn't trying to lose weight, that ice cream recipe sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel about trying to get things done over the winter, sometimes it seems like winter is not long enough. Notice I said 'sometimes', ha!
I have a few quilts waiting to be done. My hope is that they will be completed before I die!!!!

What wonderful ways to get sidetracked! Today the DH and I are running amuck on a back roads adventure through the Southern part of SC. So looking forward to this; we've both been giddy all week thinking about today... you'd think we were just starting to date or something - not bad after 26+ years. HAPPY SEWING on that next block.
ReplyDeleteYou are one very busy, talented lady!
ReplyDeleteThese all seem like very good distractions if you ask me. :-)
ReplyDeleteI came over from Farmgirl Friday--wow, you sure get the snow! We make ice cream in the winter, too--I would much rather gather snow to use for the freezing than try to get enough ice made up in advance. :o)
ReplyDeleteYum that looks good.I had some cones that folded strips of cloth to make braided rugs.
ReplyDeleteHa! Always something distracting us! But you are still getting fun things done, just not a quilt! I still have two quilt tops completed, but never sandwiched and quilted. One is my favorite - a red and white Burgoyne Surrounded, has been packed away for years. Wish I could get the motivation to get it out and finish it. I also have a blue and white Drunkards Path waiting...and waiting...
ReplyDeleteI like your rug you are making!! I've always wanted to try that. So, about the ice cream...for a second there, I really, really thought you made ice cream with the snow...I was like NO WAY...I quickly scanned the ingredients and no, it did not include snow! so funny!
ReplyDeletei've always wanted to make a rug! looks like good things to get sidetracked by! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your rug...I crochet mine from strips -looks similar to your only one step-couldn't get the hang of braiding-although my mom made beautiful ones and tried to teach me..

Leftover scrapes can also be made into fabric bowls by covering clothesline, but a throw rug looks cozy too. YUM...ice cream!! XOXO
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy and all this from being side tracked,I think you might have started something and I like it.
ReplyDeletehaha....we make grilled cheese when it snows!! that last picture is AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeleteBeing such a multi-tasker, it is so easy to be distracted. Your ice cream looks divine, now if only I had an ice cream maker.
ReplyDeleteAs for the curious serviceberry syrup, does it taste similar to black cherry? Just curious. Those buckwheat pancakes sound awesome.
I crocheted my Grams a rug many moons ago. It now meets my feet as I rise from the log bed at the cabin. Another curiosity, what are you binding the rag rug with. I'd love to make one.

Mason and I have been making rugs too. We have tried several different methods. What are you stiching it together with? I'll have to send some pics of what we have been making.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks great! :)
ReplyDeleteBTW-I just store most of my tea blends in the cupboard in mason jars. I use the white plastic Ball jar lids for storage-not canning. I just make sure my herbs and flowers are really dry. I can see that mold could occur otherwise. This particular jar is just one with a flip up glass lid with a rubber gasket. I don't know what to call it.
