I've had pallets on the mind for quite some time. First, I saw Alicia at Happily Married to the Cows use them for a compost bin (http://happilymarriedtothecows.blogspot.com/2012/05/making-compost-bin.html).
Then The Unusual Farm Chick had two tempting posts... http://unusuallyunusualfarmchick.blogspot.com/2012/05/queen-of-pallets-strikes-again.html

Inspired by my blogging friends in the heat of summer, I wander behind the garage and start digging pallets out of the grass and logs. My goal was to make a compost pile that Ella couldn't raid. Voila, with a little help from my husband that is accomplished. I put hog wire in front. To keep my little hog, I mean dog, out.

I still have one solid pallet left. I'm looking at the Farm Chick's blog for ideas. Stay tuned for future pallet productions.
Just screw the fourth one on the front and forget about the hog wire. When you want to empty the bin, just back out the four screws and take off the front panel. I go for years just adding, and adding, and adding to the pile.
ReplyDeleteYour compost bin looks great! I like the idea of the wire in front to keep out the dog, and other critters. Happy composting! I'm going to check out the other posts by the unusual farm chick as well.
ReplyDeleteOh that is why I love bloggers they are such clever people. I know Alica I am off to check out the unusual farm chick I may need to know this one myself. Have a great day at school. B
ReplyDeleteI have a pile of old pallets too and I thought the same thing when I saw Alica's compost bin. Yours looks very nice too. Ever since I have seen those ideas for making things out of pallets I have stood and stared at mine. I love how something that I viewed as a mess now turns into things to make.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as we get some cooler days I will be playing in the wood pile again. :)
Very nicely made.
I have the stack of pallets out back, we are just waiting for cooler weather to build one exactly like yours. I love the idea of compost, and our yard needs it badly.
