Darwin's Theory of Evolution...

I have been in a fret about this hummingbird all October.  I am lucky if I get one to stay a week and now that one has been homesteading.  I can't get rid of it fast enough.

I am afraid these are probably the final photos of this little bird.  She was last sited on October 25th.  The next morning was freezing snow with driving winds.  I'm afraid she is a victim of Darwin's Theory of Evolution.  I will keep my eyes open next year, because you never know.

Has the weather turned cold where you are?  Any animal abnormalities?  Other than worrying about the hummingbird, it has been pretty quiet around here.

  1. Bonnie, my granddaughter, who is a bird watcher, (9 years old) told me just today that there have been sightings of Anna's hummingbirds in the Black Hills area lately. Why aren't they going by now? Pretty pics.

The only abnormal sightings we are having are an influx of ladybugs -- in the house. Moving in for the winter maybe? Cold, windy, and snow squalls here.

  2. Poor little dear! I wonder why she didn't migrate...did she get left behind? I just can't go there. You've certainly got some great photos while she was there, though!

  3. P.S. Where did you find your porch string lights? They look so nice. Does the wind bother them?

  4. I would be worried about that hummingbird, too! Luckily we've not had snow, or even a good hard frost yet (almost unheard of, by now). -Jenn

  5. It is turning cold here but not quite freezing. I hope that the humming bird is a survivor.

  6. I hope she made it to warmer climes and returns next spring. It's been a pretty mild fall so far which is nice from a winter preparation stand point.
I just noticed your bounty list to the left - nice!

  7. I have a hummingbird that lives here year around. The others don't stay. We don't get snow but we do get freezing fog and I always wonder about it. I do hope your hummingbird is safe.

  9. Actually, we've been unusually warm with temperatures reaching in the 80s yesterday! I do think a "cold front" this weekend will drop it to the 60s, but no snow! I think birds have an instinct that the weather will change and hopefully this little one knew to get South!
