I went home for a few days. Was able to get in some riding and some fishing. Dad and I also drove around the pastures so I could get pictures. The last post was abandon homes in the area and somewhat of a sad post. This one will has a happier theme. Due to all of the moisture the wildflowers were in full bloom and lots of wildlife activity. Here a few photos from our prairie safari.
Large flowered Penstemon
A mourning dove's nest.
Leadplant
Wild Roses
A very colorful moth.
Orange Globe Flower (I have no idea what it's official name is I couldn't find it in a web search. I'm sure I haven't found a new plant species.)
A last look at the Mighty Missouri. It is always good to go home.
Love it! I haven't seen penstemon here yet. We do have lots of the scarlet globe mallow (the orange one). I like it, but then I like it all.
ReplyDeleteWow...those are beautiful flowers! I'm sure it was nice to be home.

Oh Bonnie "It is always good to go home" says it all and time with your Dad makes me happy just thinking of that. Beautiful flowers and times together. B
ReplyDeleteWe were in Praire du chein last weekend and I thought of you...wondered how close we were? It always amazes me the difference a five and a half hour drive makes. So many things already in blooms that are not even on the radar yet in the U.P. Ella got a summer haircut?
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos . Thanks for sharing ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteThe orange flower is Globe Mallow. We used to call them wild geraniums or at least that's what mom called them. They are all over.
ReplyDeleteThe first picture of the Penstemon (wondered what they were called)the Spearfish Park is full of them. I called them wild bluebells. Nice pics.
I always enjoy your pictures and posts about the prairie. I've never seen a prairie before. Thanks for sharing, it's like a glimpse into another world. I hope you had a wonderful visit with family! Cheers, Jenni
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteGlad you got the chance to go home and spend time on the prairie. The flowers are gorgeous.
The Rancher and I gathered some cattle on Saturday and there were all kinds of wild flowers. Several different types of yellow, purple and white blooms. I also saw peach flowers and cactus blooms.
God’s great beauty!
