A few photos...

This beautiful lady has nested around our cabin for the last 5 or 6 years.   It has been a pleasure watching her raise her little ones.  I don't mind losing the occasional bird.  She really keeps my chipmunk population in check.
I have gone from one chipmunk to quite a few.  Ella tries to keep them at bay, but they manage to keep out of her reach.  They are fun to watch.
The birds have really enjoyed the feeders this summer.  I have enjoyed watching a mother nuthatch with her 3 little ones this year.  They are one of my favorite birds.
The fawns are bolder now and we have the joy of watching them in the backyard every evening.   This is why we built a cabin in the woods.  It is much easier to relax after a stressful day at work, when you have images like this to come home to.
This is the last photo of my hummingbird.  I hope she started on her journey home and has not met her demise.

Just a few August photos.  I hope you enjoy.  I am not good at nighttime pictures, but I think I will meander outside and try to get a few shots of the blue moon in honor of Neil Armstrong.

"I think we're going to the moon because it's in the nature of the human being to face challenges. It's by the nature of his deep inner soul... we're required to do these things just as salmon swim upstream. Neil Armstrong

  2. Guess i need to catch that moon.Been away for a bit.I like the nuthatches , they are like little clowns of the forest.Banding birds I caught the same one 3 years in a row. When you hold them upside down they become docile for a moment.

  3. The critters in your back yard look quite happy to be there. I'm assuming that is a hawk in the first picture? What kind is it?

  4. I enjoyed the pictures of your residents, Nuthatch's are one of my favorites too! We've lost a few baby bunnies to a hawk, and although I'm really disappointed when it happens, I have to respect the food-chain. We're also not seeing as many hummingbirds lately and I hope they are on their way too!

    Enjoy your weekend!

  5. I love nuthatches, too! I love the way they climb down a tree headfirst. So adorable with their little stubby tail! I used to have a hawk that nested near here, I would see her at my water feature occasionally, but when they pulpwooded the property behind my house I think her nest may have gone down :( So sad.

  6. I'm so glad I came to your blog today! I have these little birds who come behind the crows for the bread crumbs I leave for them, but couldn't figure out what kind they were. Nuthatch! Thank you. I also love that quote by Neil Armstrong and it was a wonderful tribute to include him. Have a lovely weekend, XOXO

  7. Thanks for this look at some of the critters that come to your garden. I love watching the birds too. That is a beautiful raptor in your first pic! The birds seem to love flitting around my garden, but I can't get any to take me up on housing. I have two birdhouses that have gone empty for three years now.

Oh, those chipmunks can be so pesty, for sure!
Along with the squirrels they both can do alot of damage.

  10. I enjoyed your photos today. How lovely it is there!

Neil Armstrong was truly a legend. I couldn't see the blue moon last night because of the cloudy sky. The clouds were brilliant looking with the moon behind them, I enjoyed that.

  11. I've spotted a hummer or two, but I know their stay here is short -- just passing through, but the nuthatches will stay through the winter with us. Love them. I enjoyed your End of August photo journal.
