A plethora of pine needles...

The wind blew and my husband's beautiful green lawn was a sea of pine needles.  Leaves would have been more romantic.  I tried to have coffee this morning, but that brown carpet was driving me nuts.  Soon I was out in my raking in my robe.  Glad nobody drove by.
You can't get the farm girl out of me.  Everybody else does piles, I do windrows.  Too bad I couldn't dad up here with his baler.  Would have made things faster for me.  This was a stellar fall for pine needles in case that wasn't obvious from the two foot windrow.

I put the little red wheelbarrow to work.  Please notice how nice and green it was underneath.  I tried to go fast, but my coffee was cold by the time I had finished the chore.  Darn.  Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to relax and enjoy.

  2. You are clearly in the throws of fall! Well done on the clean up, I can appreciate your need to do it instead of enjoying some coffee, I would have been right there with ya! Hope you enjoyed the coffee this morning though! Luv the new 'bounty' tally at the side of your blog. Man, I wish we were neighbors cause I've be over on a Friday night to sample some of your fine sounding wines!

  6. That is lots and lots of pine needles. Your lawn is so green. I couldn't even tell it from the pine needles. It looks so nice now. It must have been quite a wind.

  7. Goodness, girl... you did such a great job. Without coffee, still on your PJs and robe. You made me laugh.
    Love ya!

  8. I just did the same thing here. I LOVE pine needles for mulch though, and it's all we use here now. There's a natural weed suppressant in the needles and they make all the beds looks so neat and finished. (Plus, we're cheap, and this works very well.)

  9. I know what you mean. I was just saying to my Bill, that I need to gather a bunch of fresh pinecones, soak them and make more baskets. It's a tedious chore, but I love the look of them. Hmmm, another entry someday.
Looking back, I see your Grandma's Kuchen is very similar to my Grandma's. Now I have to make some with the excess apples.
Loved the Pine Martin pictures. What a curious fella.
And thanks so much for stopping, and congrats to your hubby on the Moose hunt. Did he get it with the bow? The weather has changed, so the bow hunt is on for the Whitetail...can't shoot the prized elk here.

  10. Pine needles are also great for acidifying small areas if you want to grow some acidic soil loving plants. A lot of natives like acid soil. Did you know pines drop 1/7 of their needles every fall? The first time mine did it I nearly freaked.... luckily I found out it was normal. Whew.

  11. Hmm...that always seems to happen...a perfectly good, steaming hot, cup of coffee...and something catches my eye that just needs to be done really quickly so I can get back to my cup of coffee and enjoy it. Of course, every time I get back to the coffee, it's cold! Boo! Sometimes I can actually make myself sit and drink the whole cup while doing nothing else...sometimes, but hardly ever. LOL! Well, I can understand...I would have been driven crazy by the brown carpet of needles blanketing the beautiful green lawn as well!
