Holy Hollyhocks...

Back in the day, when we lived in Lead, I had a garden filled with beautiful hollyhocks.  I so loved them.    When we built our cabin in the woods, hollyhock production stopped.  I suppose we just don't get enough sun in the woods.  Still I have tried every year for the last 11 years.  Lo and behold, this year I have hollyhocks.
The hollyhock above is Peaches & Cream.  I never thought I'd get it to grow, much less bloom.  The deep red hollyhocks below are from seeds given to me by my Mother-in-Law.  I am so excited that I finally got them to bloom.  I have always admired hers.
I am so happy with my new garden additions.   Now that I've finally got them going, hopefully, they will continue to prosper.

  2. I love hollyhocks! Probably mostly because I remember making little dolls from the blossoms and toothpicks.

  3. Holyhocks are one of my favorites--reminds me of my grandmother's home. Yours are just spectacular and puts them on my list of flowers to do in paper with my next collection, XOXO

  4. I love your double hollyhock. That is so pretty. When I was a little kid, My great grandmother came to visit us. My Mom was so nuts about hollyhocks and she was always gathering seed. My great grand mother gave her seeds that had been in her family that they brought her from Scotland. Anyway, it was a triple hollyhock. It was hugs like the size of a plate. She collected those seeds and gave them to my great grand mother.
Every year that was our job. Then she died and the woman my Dad married took them out. I was a little kid so I didn't know to save seeds. I always wish I could find seeds like that again, I am afraid though, they are gone forever.
    I always look for them.
I am so glad you got seeds like that to grow. Sorry this is so long, but looking at your top flower just brought that memory back. Your bee photos are just breath taking.

  5. I like hollyhocks too, Bonnie. Unfortunately, mine got rust and it seems to be in the soil - destroying my affected plants didn't help - even new ones get the rust.
Yours are stunning, especially the pink one! Have a blessed day, Beth

  6. I had so many hollyhocks around the veggie garden this year that had reseeded themselves from last year that I had to pull them and discard them like weeds. Once they become established you'll have them for years to come.
