Fall is slowly coming to a close here. How do I know? The last two days the cranes have gone over the cabin in droves. The only sound that trumps the cries of the cranes would probably be the bugle of a bull elk. I become entranced watching them dip, circle, and dive. It continues to amaze me how quickly they move despite going in giant loops.
I wish I had been faster with the camera. At one point today there were 5 blue jays in the crabapple tree. They were so pretty against the yellow leaves of the apple.
It is a good thing the birds have the crabapple tree, because the squirrel has been hogging the feeder.
That is about it for here. I was pretty busy this weekend. I'm still working on my bushel of apples. We went duck hunting Saturday morning. A tale for another time. It was Ella's first duck hunt. My nephew is here bow hunting now. As always it is nice to have company. I hope you are all keeping busy. What birds are at your feeders?
Cranes going over here and some geese too. We mostly have chickadees and some juncos around the feeders. I'm hoping the chickadees stay this winter. Sometimes they do, sometimes not.
ReplyDeleteI seem to have more squirrels than birds around here. The black walnuts call them I suppose. Hug B
ReplyDeleteIsn't autumn spectacular? We have been seeing/hearing Canadian geese lately. Also, like there the small wildlife has also been "all a scurry" rushing around filling their stores:)
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a lot of bird traffic, it is still warm enough here to find lots of food. When birds circle it is called kettling and they find the right wind currents.I enjoy watching the pelicans do this, the massive birds disappear at certain angles.Cooked duck by my Aunt Olive , I always thought maybe she used olives by the praises her husband gave, and how good everything tasted.
ReplyDeleteLovely shots! I've noticed with the cooler weather the birds are back at the feeders. This morning I had goldfinches, juncoe's, chickadee's and a nuthatch. That was before one of the neighbourhood cats showed up!
ReplyDeleteCamp robbers are my favorite bird. They amuse me when I'm walking in the woods or sitting still in a tree stand or ground blind. They're beautiful, friendly and oh so curious!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear about your duck hunt!
I don't have any feeders out...and the cats would probably scare the birds away anyway, but I enjoy looking at everyone else's photos! Mr squirrel looks quite pleased with himself...and it looks like his fat little belly is well filled! :)
ReplyDeleteOur leaves are just starting to change-we're so far behind! My cats are sorry to see so few squirrels lately, but the crows are keeping them entertained. Happy Fall, dear friend, XOXO
