I'm a tad late posting, because we went to Minnesota to visit family. While we were visting, my Mother-In-Law took me on bird photo safari. I was super lucky to catch birds for my great year that I don't normally see here in South Dakota.
Common Grackle
House Sparrow
American Goldfinch
Rose-Breasted Grosbeak
Baltimore Oriole
Red-Winged Blackbird
Female Red-Winged Blackbird
Ruby Throated Hummingbird
Northern Cardinal
Killdeer
Evening Grossbeak
I was overjoyed when I got home and was able to capture the trifecta of Grossbeaks. I have the Black Headed, Rose-Breasted, and Evening Grossbeaks. Birds that I saw, but was unable to get a photo of House Wren, Common Coot, and Yellow Headed Blackbird, and a ton of ducks. I learned it is impossible to take photos of birds while going down the interstate at 80mph. I enjoyed sharing my love of birds with my Mother-In-Law. It is always fun to go birdwatching with her. Not only did I get to spend time withmy husband's family, but also my brother and sister. Since visits are few and far between we always try to make the best of our time together. What a great Memorial Day weekend; working towards a challenge and spending time with family. I hope your weekend was as fun.
Wow, quite the collection for one weekend. So are you keeping track by year? If so, how many different birds have you seen this year so far? I suppose I should say different kinds of birds 😊
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about the birds you were able to see and to even get pictures of them. For days I have been chasing a Oriole with my binoculars. I haven't even tried with a camera. I have so much respect for you to be able to capture them. I almost got ran over by a car in a parking lot watching Grackles. It must be so much nicer to be out in the woods. It sounds like you had a lovely weekend. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteQuite an assortment of birds, some that I see around here in MD. Why did I think you lived in Montana not in S. Dakota?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos.Time with family is the best. HUGS B
ReplyDeleteOne must pull over and stop, I do it everywhere. LOLLovely share, getting a lot planted and staying busy.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! You're seeing lots of birds that are common to us, but some that are not -- like the cardinal. What fun to go bird watching with an avid watching and lover of birds AND your MIL! That's so cool. There is just no way I can shoot photos at 80 mph either, but I try!
ReplyDeleteThe house sparrow is the only one that I would recognise. Grackle what a funny name is it based on the sound it makes?
